03Origin & word formation
Dictionary.com named “67” its 2025 Word of the Year and said it was difficult to pin down a single meaning. It tentatively traced the expression to rapper Skrilla's “Doot Doot (6 7)” and described its spread through basketball-related TikTok videos, along with a gesture moving two upturned palms alternately. A 2026 overseas-trends report from the Korean Foundation for International Cultural Exchange also documents the pronunciation “six-seven” and its lack of a fixed meaning. Widespread use in Korea has not been separately verified.
Evidence for the origin explanationMedium
The dictionary publisher's own explanation was compared with Korean institutional material. The dictionary itself presents the song connection tentatively, so the exact origin remains uncertain. Its popularity among Korean speakers has not been verified.
